Here are some brief prayers to pray before reading the Bible:
Speak Lord, your servant is listening. (See 1 Samuel 3:10.)
Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your Word. (See Psalm 119:18.)
Lord, make my heart burn within me as you speak to me through your Word. (See Luke 24:32.)
Lord, open my mind to understand your Scriptures. (See Luke 24:46.)
We start our Thursday mornings together with the following prayer:
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit, and they shall be created.
And You shall renew the face of the earth.
O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit,
did instruct the hearts of the faithful,
grant that by the same Holy Spirit
we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations.
Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
We close with the following prayers:
Prayer to St. Michael
St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness
and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God, cast into hell
Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl throughout the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen
